Parish Round Up: July 2021

Welcome to our new website! It’s now really easy for us to keep you updated with what’s been happening and to celebrate all the great things that have been happening in our community. So without further ado, here’s our parish news round up for July!

Our New Card Machine!

Our new card machine in action!

Donating to St Philip’s has never been easier, as we have a new electronic card machine! We are grateful to Southwark Diocese for this machine that enables quick and simple giving to our work. Look out for it the next time you attend a service.

Meet Our Intern

Our intern Josh

This summer we are joined by Josh Mock, who is our summer intern. He will be working alongside Revd Helen on our summer programme, as well as learning more about pastoral care, liturgy, and parish life. Josh is a student at SOAS and is discerning his vocation in Southwark Diocese. Please pray for Josh as he joins us this summer, and do say hello if you see him around!

Solace Prayer Group

Solace prayer group met for the first time on 30th July.
The prayer group was commissioned at our Sunday service on August 1st.

On 30th July, our new lay-led prayer group met for the first time. Taking prayer requests from the congregation, they gathered to join in prayer and worship for our community, our loved ones, and the wider world. We’re so excited to see how this group will flourish and sustain us in prayer. Please pray for the group, and do join in! Solace Prayer Group meets on the last Friday of each month. Contact Patricia for more information.

Gardening

Chris working on the memorial garden
Josh mowing the memorial garden lawn

We’ve been gardening here at St Philip’s! Chris and Patricia worked together to tidy the borders in the cool of a Sunday evening, while Josh mowed the grass. Now that it’s looking neater, we hope that people can use the memorial garden to find some peace and quiet to take time out and reflect. If you’re interested in gardening, get in touch with Chris to find out more.

Bible Study

Our Bible study group have started a new venture: to read through the Gospel of Mark. We’re reading slowly and mindfully through this wonderful book, taking time to ask questions, reflect, and think about how it applies to our own lives.

It can be hard to join in with a new study group but we’d encourage anyone even slightly interested to join us for a session and have a go! Attendees have expressed that after joining, they have noticed more confidence in expressing their views, and enjoy hearing other people’s ideas.

Bible study meets 6-7pm Thursdays on zoom – get in touch with Revd Helen if you have any questions or would like to join us!

Summer Project

This Summer, we’re flinging wide the gates to open up to our community and organising a wide range of events! From kids’ club to gigs on the green, there’s something for everyone this Summer at St Philip’s. To find out more, read here. Please pray for our summer projects, and if you think you can help – either financially or through volunteering – please get in touch with Revd Helen. We look forward to seeing you this August!

Don’t forget that we’re here for you, in joy or in need. Get in touch if you have a prayer request, want to find out more about our services or projects, want to celebrate a life event, or just want a chat!

Come you who have much faith and you who have none.

You who have been often and you who have never been at all.

You who have tried to follow and you who think you have failed.

Come, not because we invite you, but because Jesus does.

It is his will that those who want him will meet him here.
